Elvis Presley

American singer and actor

Elvis Presley was an American singer and actor. “The King” had a significant impact on modern music, popularising rock ’n’ roll for the masses via his unique blend of R&B and country music, and his iconic television performances.

After first recording singles for Sun Records in 1954, he released Heartbreak Hotel on RCA in 1956, scoring his first No. 1 hit. His self-titled debut album, released that same year, contained the smash Blue Suede Shoes and became the first rock ’n’ roll album to top the Billboard charts. Though he spent much of the ’60s focused on starring movies, the soundtrack albums still produced some of his best-loved tracks, including  Can't Help Falling in Love (from Blue Hawaii) and Return to Sender (Girls! Girls Girls!).
After 1967’s gospel album How Great Thou Art, which won him a Grammy Award for Best Sacred Performance, Presley returned to live performance with his first TV appearance in eight years on the Elvis Presley: ’68 Comeback Special. The following year, From Elvis In Memphis marked a return to studio albums after his string of soundtracks. Presley’s most popular songs include Can't Help Falling In Love, Burning Love, Always on My Mind, In the Ghetto, and Suspicious Minds.
He appeared in over 30 films, including Jailhouse Rock, Viva Las Vegas, Love Me Tender,  Blue Hawaii, and  Clambake, as well as the concert films Elvis - That's The Way It Is and  Elvis On Tour. He passed away at the age of 42 on August 16, 1977.
