Abbey Lincoln was an American singer (1930-2010). She recorded with Benny Carter in 1956 and debuted on Riverside Records in 1957. Lincoln performed on Max Roach's Freedom Now Suite, which was released as the 1960 album We Insist! Max Roach's Freedom Now Suite by Abbey Lincoln and Max Roach. Her most popular songs include Afro-Blue, Throw It Away, and Up Jumped Spring. Lincoln also appeared in the films Nothing but a Man and Mo' Better Blues.
