Sam Cooke

American singer and songwriter

Sam Cooke was an American singer and songwriter. He led the gospel group The Soul Stirrers, translating the rousing warmth of church standards to the breezy realm of secular pop. Cooke released the solo single You Send Me and later popular songs Bring It On Home to Me and A Change Is Gonna Come, an anthem for the civil rights movement. His discography includes the albums Night Beat, Ain't That Good News, and One Night Stand! Live at the Harlem Square Club, 1963. Cooke passed away in 1964.
