After rising to fame on The Voice, she released her debut album Cry Baby and later wrote, directed, and starred in the surreal film musical K-12. This project expanded her musical influences to include inventive modern hip-hop and simmering R&B. Martinez then released a companion album to K-12, followed by PORTALS.
